The Bryan/College Station Chamber of Commerce will host the 17th Annual Youth to Career Fair on Wednesday, October 22, 2014 at the Brazos County Expo Complex.
Eighth grade students from College Station ISD, Bryan ISD, area private schools, home schools and surrounding area schools are invited to take part in planning their futures at this exciting event. The purpose of the event is to expose area 8th graders to all aspects of business and encouraged to investigate career pathways unknown to them and expand their horizons so they may plan their high school schedules in an educated manner.
Students visit with representatives from various businesses and industries in a booth setting. They are encouraged to visit 7 to 10 booths during the 50 minutes they are allotted at the event. The Chamber of Commerce asks its Chamber Members and other businesses to volunteer to represent their occupations at the Youth to Career Fair. There is no booth cost and lunch is provided. Over 2800 students will participate between the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
For the first time, students will be able to earn one or more endorsements as part of their graduation requirements. Endorsements consist of a related series of courses that are grouped together by interest or skill set. They provide students with in-depth knowledge of a subject area. Students must select an endorsement in the ninth grade. Districts and charters are not required to offer all endorsements. If only one endorsement is offered, it must be multidisciplinary studies. Students earn an endorsement by completing the curriculum requirements for the endorsement, including 4th credit of math and science and 2 additional elective credits. Endorsement areas include STEM, Business and Industry, Public Service, Arts and Humanities, and Multidisciplinary Studies.
